Third session of International Conference on Chemicals Management

In 17-21 September 2012 the third session of SAICM conference took place. Aiming at turning aspirations into practical delivery without delay, a recent update has been prepared by the SAICM secretariat highlighting the key outcomes of this Conference.
The main outcomes of the conference were:
1)- Evaluation and progress in implementation of the Strategic Approach
The third session reviewed progress against agreed Strategic Approach which reporting highlighted  that national chemicals profiles have shown to be effective tools in national efforts to set the agenda and determine priorities for sound chemicals management  as well as implementation of the Quick Start Programme. The Strategic Approach Quick Start Programme also had an important role in the implementation of SAICM by providing a boost to many countries in their efforts to prepare national chemicals management profiles.

Activities held by the Institute of Public Health concerning the DDD’s

Following the issues tackled by the Institute of Public Health concerning the shortages and threats stemming from the inadequate usage of biocide substances used in the DDD (Disinfection, Disinsection, Deratisation) services a series of activities and trainings were held during January 2011- April 2012. The training activities were organized from IPH and Colkim  supported by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with PelGar International with their HQ in London, Arli International, Maminas, Durres, the Albanian branch of Quark(an Italian company), Italian company. These trainings give us a good example of the relationship between the private and public sector.

A NEW INITIATIVE FOR THE SEPERATION OF RECYCLABE WASTE AT THEIR SOURCE


The municipality of Lezha for more than three years has been implementing the system of gathering urban waste in a differentiated manner. To support this project the URI (Urban Research Institute) has been implementing for 18 months in the city of Lezha the project of differentiated plastic waste management. The municipality is supporting the implementation of the project "Participatory Plastic Cleaning and Waste Management” with financial support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Albania in collaboration with Decentralization and Local Development Programme (DLDP) funded by Swiss Cooperation. The main goal of this project is to increase awareness of the public for the differentiation of waste starting from their source and a big contribution to this was given by Educational Directorate of Lezha and schools of the city of Lezha..

International activity on chemicals management held in Tirana on23-28 April 2012


KEMI- Swedish Chemicals Agency has organized for many years  an International Training Program themed “ Chemicals Management Strategies”, a program which is supported by SIDA – Swedish International Cooperation Agency . On a long-term prospective this program will contribute to the strengthening of capacities of the countries involved with chemicals management. Our country has been part of three consecutive programs during 2009-2012 with 12 representatives from central government, institutions, universities, associations as well as local government.
